These red blown glass apples float outside in a reflecting pool at the Tacoma Glass Museum and were fabricated in the summer of 2002 by us for the California Artist Mildred Howard for her outdoor public installation titled 'Blackbird in a Red Sky (aka Fall of the Blood House)'. The apples needed to be a slighly elongated shape to be bouyant enough to bob at the right level in the water. Each apple has a invisible clear nub on the bottom so it can be lashed to a grid system limiting it's movement. All 750 apples were produced in 5 days. It was a rush job due to the opening press day. |
